There are rare instances when you come across a blog you have no choice but to follow. This blog, the most recent entrant of the category, introduced me to a great innovation in Water Turbine power generation. The video clearly shows how this flexible mechanism can serve as a primary, co-generational or supplemental addition to any system with access to flowing water. It improves efficiencies by over 40% in extended test runs, and the video is something you must take 14 minutes out for: www.gizmag.com/strait-power-hydroelectric-turbine/17801
Practical Intelligence – Applications
An amazing and empowering idea of training management teams through CloudCamp.org/Lahore & Karachi came very close to fruition. The Community Leadership Summit ’11 (West) lead to the birth of Cloud Computing Pakistan. From there it has been a rolling ball, gathering moss. We intend to do it well enough that it enriches and forever changes all who participate, and specially all who dare to volunteer for this well-worn effort. (Volunteer effort example: this event brochure.)
Community leaders from Pakistan are engaged, well-meshed with leaders out west, and there is talk of turning this working-opportunity into a documented training program that all those who participate in, learn from and are able to pass on.
The team is mostly dispersed, but the concept of OpenSpace unconference is finally coming to fruition, guided by long-experienced facilitators and friends. Continued…
Perspective Enhancement to Better Ourselves
Listening to a Sanskrit prayer, accompanied by a Sarod, at the Medicine Buddhas‘ 5th Annual Prayer-song concert to bring in the new year. 2006 was the first, with a 45-minute silent meditation being the transition into the new year, followed up by none other than Zenergy, live jamming like only they can, strumming soul stirring music.
The second prayer / meditation song that just concluded had repeated references to Muhamman, Muhammaa, Muhammanni and MuHAMM. Now, what does a muslim hear in this? What does a sanskrit-knowing pandit? Does our perspective determine our point of view? Or does the POV inform the psyche as to how to take in this input?
The third one is centered around the word(s) melubo, meluko, mailkoo, mailuu. I will continue posting this, as I welcome those with internal knowledge of this info to come and comment, share, & enrich. Continued…

Pay Attention to Sensation (-In Your Teeth!-)
Just discovered a piece of meat between my teeth, or maybe it was a persimmon vein, (which is quite possible: I’ve been gorging these of late, thanks to Alemany Farmers’ Market, SF.) It helped me to realize that I don’t need this. As I have progressed past the mid-30′s, I have been blessed with a diet that seems to have made me younger. So I didn’t really care when I realized something was amiss, as I felt my upper right front tooth, and ignored it for a day.
The next day it was back, and now I was feeling the coldness of a drink, or the heat of tea. So I went to floss, something I know we all must do more often than we do. Thank goodness for that, because the piece I discovered, if it was meat, was decayed beyond recognition, & if it was persimmon, was one thick vein. (In either case, it sobered me to what could’ve happened, as I do not want to loose my nice teeth. So maybe instead I can loose the meat?-)
Sensation is the means utilized in Vipassana as well, the 10-day silent retreat offered free worldwide at Dhamma.org. It is the method that Gautama Buddha utilized to achieve independent enlightenment, without the input of any religion or mumbo-jumbo. He realized that he couldn’t really trust anyone, or anything, that was not from him. So he settled on the simplest input he could narrow his senses down to: the Sensation of Touch. This man achieved enlightenment from this sense! Can’t we gain a little better health, or vitality? Continued…
Approaching a ‘Grand Unification Story’ (GUS) of Everything
Science, Art, and Spirit are parts of a whole, part of ourselves, which we utilize to grasp, understand, & comprehend the world. This article is a study of how our trained comprehension shapes us.
The point of science is that it enhances our understanding of life, systems that sustain life, and everything we can measure. The point of art is to enhance our lives at a more personal level, a level where the creation ceases to be an amalgam and begins to affect those who interact with it, knowingly or unknowingly. That makes us another aspect of the triangle we are viewing, but we will get to that later (#1). Scientific arts (or artistic sciences) like
Philosophy become transmuters, or mediums that bridge the chasms separating forms like art, like a creative thought that enlivens the mind, with science, like a complex thought that expands our understanding. Which leads us to Spirit, or spirituality, as the mystery that science cannot (yet) get to, art can only evoke by directing us to, and philosophy begins to convey by putting into more accessible terms.
As human beings, we interact ubiquitously with Science, Art & Spirit. We feel we are separate from them all, yet they completely encompass us. They become more relevant as our perspectives expand, and we understand them from newer points of view. In this we have something important to gain, by engaging in an exercise of introspection.

Perspective Enrichment For A Better World
Howard Bok once hosted a speaker at Harvard who, in his commencement address, spoke of the absolute and ongoing importance of stretching in life. In every way, every day, he said repeatedly, you must stretch. I thought I was being reminded the lesson my cat gave me, as she stretched and remained fit through her long life. Yet so many years later, when I am still looking for the name of this well-meaning speaker, I see the meanings in so many different ways, that I feel my perspectives have stretched, enriching me and the message I derive from a speech that I initially felt was about: “The Importance of Stretching In Life”.
I went to Berkeley for a dinner tonight at the home of a Pakistani girl, who’s blessed to be friends with a most eclectic international circle across a long span of time. We discussed many things from different perspectives, increasing our own points of view available to us. We repeatedly realized how this was possibly the greatest & most significant act we could individually commit to. Why? For many reasons:
A solution to the oil spill, if BP allows capping the well
A potential solution to the oil spill problem came to me in meditation this morning. In all humility, I am asking everyone to help make this suggestion more plausible, possible, and probable:
I have read the biography of Red Adair, and this suggestion is coming with the experience of learning to cut our losses before our losses begin to cut us. This is actually a great opportunity, if the US can allow BP 2 approach Russia, (or welcome them,) to test-fire one of their Shkval missile-exhaust-forward Air-Tipped bubble-riding Torpedo’s, down the well-shaft. These are “supercavitating” torpedoes, which create their own cavity, or fluid-free-path, by deflecting a part of the missile exhaust forward, from close to the tip.
This will more easily work against the outward pressure of the turbulent gunk currently exploding out of the deep well-pipe. Another reason we want a missile-propelled bubble-riding torpedo instead of the conventional kind is that in case it veers off, we want it to reach as deep as possible before it blows. The odds of capping the well increase the further down a conventional detonation occurs. Red Adair would be proud! This is an approach with a built-in backup, in case it cannot be rigged to work vertically, or within the limited confines of a mine. If need be, it could even be fired from a temporary-rig pointing it straight down the hole: the Russians can surely manage that.
There is the obvious computation required to take into account the rising pressure as the rocket dives deeper under water, and at what point the supercavitation created by the diverted rocket-exhaust will fail, causing the rocket-propelled torpedo to turn into something more akin to a conventional one. Whatever that depth may be, it will be further, and thus better than, the discarded a consideration of firing a conventional torpedo down the tube with steady fluid-pressure pushing it backward. Even if our Shkval fails, it will be at a greater depth than anything else that has been considered at this time. It could either cause a cave-in of rock & debris of sufficient weight to cap the flow, or else it will clear out easier and safer than the oil itself, being dirt. Yet if it works, it could travel all the way down the well, (or as far as the experts permit) & plug the hole where we want it. If that is what we indeed want. The question to BP is do we want this, given the ongoing environmental catastrophe?
Overall, I am sharing this publicly as a test of my own credibility, and the desire of a do-gooder to do some more good than anyone else is practicing the courage to attempt. Does this idea make sense to you? You are being asked for feedback, & to help propagate the thought.
[Specifically, I am asking: How do we bring this idea to the attention of those who can make a difference? I am open to suggestions, leadership, or guidance:]
(This idea originated from my Google buzz, so I retain ownership of the general concept, but I am sharing it now in the public domain under GPL, the General Public License, which means that you are welcome to use it, but be so kind as to link back to this post, as I’ll continue refining it as more is learned.)
